What is a MSCA-Doctoral Network?

A MSCA Doctoral Network is a consortium-based training network that develops a research program on a specific topic through multiple PhD projects. Each PhD project has a host institution with a designated main supervisor. Additionally, candidates will have other supervisors within the network and will undertake secondments at top-tier institutions.

What is Transform?

Transform is a Marie-Curie-Sklodowska Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network (DN) focused on extending the knowledge regarding whether and to what extent transformative practices are effective mechanisms for activating and consolidating transitions in urban mobility cultures and their resulting socio-spatial effects.

PhD Recruitment

Is it mandatory to have all documentation ready before starting in my position?

While it is not mandatory to have all documentation ready during the application, we strongly recommend having it prepared as soon as possible. Any delays during this phase could jeopardize your eligibility for the grant. Additionally, ensure that you review and manage any requirements related to visas, residence permits, and the recognition of qualifications, if applicable. When should I apply for the position?

We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. The status of each position can be found in the relevant section of the website.

What salary can I expect?

Salary is aligned with MSCA-DN guidelines, so it varies by country according to coefficients established by the European Commission. In general, the gross salary includes a living allowance, a mobility allowance, and, if applicable, a family allowance. Each job offer will specify the details and gross salary for each position.

What is the duration of the position?

The fellowship duration is three years. In some cases, it may be extended for an additional year, depending on the policies of the recruiting institution. For further details, please contact the main supervisor of the PhD position you are interested in.

What are the general requirements for applying for these PhD positions?

You should not have already obtained a PhD.
You must not have resided in or carried out your main activity in the country of the hosting institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding your recruitment date.
You should be able to communicate fluently in English, as it is the official language of the project.
You should be eligible to enrol in the PhD program at the host institution. This means you should have completed a Master's degree or meet any other specific requirements.

Once selected, when should I incorporate into the institution?

You will start your research as soon as you are selected and have completed all necessary administrative procedures, including obtaining any required permits or residence documentation.

Can I apply for the position through this website?

No. The formal application must be submitted through each host institution’s designated human resources platform. However, you may contact the responsible person for the PhD position to express your interest or solve your specific doubts about the program, the team, etc.

How long does the selection process take?

The selection process may take up to nine months from February 2025, but this timeline may vary depending on each institution's regulations.

Are local language skills required?

The official language of the project is English, and all research activities will be conducted in English. However, some PhD projects may have some requirements in the local language. The language requirements for each position are specified in the respective job offers

Can I apply for multiple positions?

Yes. You may apply for multiple positions, provided you meet the eligibility criteria. Please refer to the relevant question in this FAQ for more details. Project coordinators will contact you in case you are successful in more than one selection process.

Can I apply if I already have a PhD?

No. If you have already obtained a PhD and you are interested in the research areas covered by this project, you may contact us through the general email specified in the contact form for postdoctoral opportunities.

How can I determine if my background is suitable for the position?

The specific requirements for each position are listed in its description. If you have any doubts, please email the responsible person for the PhD offer or use the contact form to reach out to the project coordination team.

Training Process

Can I engage in other activities while enrolled in the network?

The fellowship requires full-time commitment, meaning you are expected to dedicate yourself entirely to your research until the project concludes. However, the program includes complementary training in non-academic, professional development and soft skills to enhance your expertise.

Are training activity costs included in the grant?

Yes, all training costs are included in the contract. This allows you to fully focus on expanding your knowledge in the field.

Should I attend all of the training activities?

If you enroll in the network, you must complete all the training activities specified for your position, which will vary.

Should I complete any secondments for this PhD?

Transform is an elite MSCA Doctoral Network training program, so at least two secondments in organizing institutions are required to complete the program. Each PhD project includes a secondment plan. You can consult the PhD offer responsible for further information or possible rearrangements.

I do not meet the eligibility criteria/I was not selected for the fellowship I applied for. Can I participate in the training activities?

Some training activities, such as academic schools, will be open to interested researchers. We will announce them through our social media, so follow us in LinkedIn or BlueSky.

Apart from the specific training activities described for network participants, are there any other courses I should take?

There are specific courses offered through local PhD programs that can complement your background and extend your knowledge in the area.
